BURSA MALAYSIA: KL Shares Extend Gains To Open Higher
Share Price on Bursa Malaysia extended gains from last week to open higher Monday, supported by demand in selected heavyweights, dealers said. |
The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) opened 3.62 points higher at 1,696.11 from Friday's close of 1,692.49, and continued its upward momentum thereafter.
At 9.20 am, it was 10.96 points better at 1,707.07.
A dealer said the local bourse was tracking the bullish performance of Asian shares, which hit a two-month high due to positive US jobs data.
"Traders are also awaiting clues from China on its new economic plans which include an economic growth expectation in the range of 6.5 per cent," he added.
On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index rose 73.89 points to 11,796.53, the FBMT100 Index gained 69.27 points to 11,500.00, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index surged 72.69 points to 12,496.98.
The FBM 70, however, fell 27.38 points to 12,919.15.But, the FBM Ace improved 27.60 points to 5,711.68.
Sector-wise, the Plantation Index was 47.47 points higher at 7,866.56, the Industrial Index improved 34.78 points for 3,326.60, while the Finance Index jumped 129.84 points to 14,493.80.
Market breadth was positive with gainers beating losers 211 to 154, with 166 counters unchanged, 1,202 untraded and 21 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 291.65 million shares worth RM153.73 million.
Among heavyweights, Maybank increased nine sen to RM8.84, TNB rose 10 sen to RM13.38, Pub1ic Bank gained eight sen for RM18.88, while Petronas Chemicals bagged four sen for RM6.92.
